Sleep Apnea Holladay, UT

Sleep apnea effects millions of American adults. Often left undiagnosed, sleep apnea is a chronic illness that can effect your oral health and your overall well being. Patinets suffering from sleep apnea are prone to cardiovascular disease and increased risk of tooth decay. Dr. Val Ludlow and our experienced, compassionate dental team at Holladay Dental Excellence provide comprehensive diagnostics and treatment of sleep apnea.

What Is Sleep Apnea>

Sleep apnea or obstructive sleep disorder (OSA), is a condition where a person stops breathing up to 600 times a night due to a blockage of their airway. Soft oral tissue, such as the tongue, relax and fall to the back of the throat cutting off the oxygen flow. Patients often wake suddenly, snoring loudly and/or gasping for air many times a night. Sleep apnea can become life threatening and should be treated as soon as possible.

Symptoms of Sleep Apnea

  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Headaches, especially in the morning
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Inability to focus
  • Dry mouth
  • Loud Snoring
  • Gasping for air while sleeping

Treatments for Sleep Apnea

Dr. Ludlow will work cooperatively with a local sleep study specialist or your general physician for diagnosis of your sleep apnea. Once a treatment plan is determined between you and your doctors, Dr. Ludlow can custom fabricate an oral sleep device.

An alternative to the CPAP, oral sleep appliances reposition the teeth and jaw to help keep your airway open during sleep. The discreet, easily portable device is worn at night. Custom fit to your mouth, the device is comfortable to wear. Many patients experience almost immediate relief from headaches and grogginess once they begin wearing their sleep device. An oral sleep device is much like a sports mouthguard and when used consistently, will reduce symptoms and restore an improved quality of life.
